I was born in Canada and obtained a british passport on the grounds that both my parents were british born. I've just had a baby in Spain, is she thus eligible for a british passport too?

  1. As long as one parent or more holds British Citizenship I think so yes. This is called British Citizenship by descent  However I can not be certain.

Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_nat... or contact the Home Office: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/

    Hope this helps

  2. Hello SJ,

YES, you can apply for your Baby on the grounds that at the time of  Birth, you were a British Citizen and so were your parents, it makes life much easier if you are Married to the father on the date of the birth, which I presume that you are, the laws state that you should be Married to the mother/father, at the time of the overseas birth but if not then subsequent marriage provides entitlement to British Citizenship anyway. So if not married then get married to dad and apply at the U.K Home Office!
