Im 5,6 and weigh about 130 pounds. Im just learning how to surf and i stood up a couple times, also the first wave i caught was a backside which my friends think is pretty impressive. (Now to the question) I have a 6,2 shortboard, is it the right board for me?

  1. Unless you have a wide Fish type design, a 6'2" short board is a little small for your first board.  I think you should get yourself something around 7' - 7'6".  You can still learn on your 6'2", but it will take a little longer and you may end up developing an overly jerky style.  Your 6'2" will be fine for your size once you learn to handle it effectively.

  2. shortbordes are for tricks so ussually more experience surfers. for beginers foam boards that are long are best for just catchin that perfect wave.

  3. i guess.i took my bf to help me find one! he is a surfing fool!=)

  4. Since you're just learning how to surf, you should go with a bigger board. A big fish would be a good choice. It'll allow you to go with a board that's not a big longboard while still being easy to paddle and catch lots of wave. Remember, the more waves you catch, the more fun you'll have and the faster you'll get better. Plus you won't outgrow a good fish. You'll be able to use a good fish for a long time in many different wave conditions. Check out the 6'10" Yellowtail from 9:Fish Surfboards - http://www.9fishsurf.com/yellowtail.html...  It's only a little longer than your 6'2" shortboard but you'll catch 10 times as many waves and stand up a lot more often.

  5. beginners should use wide thick boards with wide tails for stability. A 6'2 usually is very narrow in the tail and nose for radical maneuvers. I'd suggest you get a funshape 7-8' and practice on that before you use the 6'2 again.

  6. maybeeee, my cousin has a shortboard, and i have a 7'6 nsp board which is mayyyy easier to stand up on paddle on, find your balnce spot and im a beginner too

  7. If your riding bigger waves you want a short board(the thing about them you have to paddle harder to catch the wave)

if you are riding smaller waves you would want a bigger board
