Question:

Is my t.v. broken or is it just really crappy?

I bought an Insignia t.v. about a month and half ago, it was farely cheap, but I didn't think it would make a big difference between a more expensive one. Well I'm noticing that skin tones kind of look choppy and almost a blue tone, and shadowy areas look blotchy. Is it just because the t.v. is bad quality or should I get it looked at to be fixed? I have comcast too and I haven't heard great things about the cable company.

  1. I would try the picture settings thing. You might have also switched coloring modes from standard to vivid or cineam or something. Go into you menu and play around

If things till don't look right, you got pwned.

You should have bought a name brand tv. Obviously it makes a differnce. You get what you pay for.

  2. Before hauling your TV back to Best Buy, you may want to try adjusting the picture settings in your TV's menu.

Until recently I've always done this by eyeball, but for about $5 you can do a better job.

All DVDs that have THX also have a "THX Optimizer " on the disk. All you do is spend about $5 for a pair of "THX BLUE FILTER OPTIMIZER GLASSES"

Just get the glasses and a DVD with THX, then find the "Optimizer" on the DVD's menu and follow the directions.

Insignia isn't the best brand but it's likely that what you are seeing is just that the TV was never adjusted.

(Beware of $300 "calibrations". If you can't get a good looking picture with the THX DVD & $5 glasses, there is something wrong with the TV or the signals it is getting. Does the picture still look bad on DVDs or with antenna signals?)

  3. You should take it in to get looked at, Yes, but a way to find out if its really broken or not is to go under resolutions and tones, probally under setup or menu, if everything looks alright then you might wanna take it in.
