on average how long does it take a tattoo to heal?

ive had mine done for a week and 5 days, i used bepanthen and wrapped it for bed for going out, its peeled now so does that mean its healed? cause when i stop putting the bepanthen on it gets dry

does it sound healed or like its still got some healing to do?

ive just put some E45 on it and its still dry, is this normal? how often should i be moisturizing it?

  1. you are supposed to clean it with a medication lotion (polysporin cream) 3 times a day for 3 days.

after tose 3 days, moisturize with an unscented lotion (i use lubriderm) 3 times a day for 3 weeks.

you should still moisturize 3 times a day for another 2 weeks at least.

  2. Generally it takes a full 6 weeks to heal, and you should avoid putting it in the sun.

  3. Most of mine have looked pretty good by 2 wks, and down to feeling like regular skin in 3 wks. ... except this one on my calf. I poked the center of it and it scabbed and stayed on for 4 wks. and the rest of the tat really wasn't down to skin either. I'm going on my 5th week and have just a small milky section in the middle, but the color is finally starting to pop back out on the rest of it. So, this one looks like a 6 weeker for some reason. Maybe it was the irritation of my uniform pants at work, maybe it was the dye, maybe it was me??? Who knows. But you just continue to do excellent aftercare from start to finish no matter how long it takes, then sunblock for life.

As far as being dry, the previous answer is very good. Lubriderm - a light coat after washing with antibacterial soap using your fingers (that you have washed 1st)

It'll go through stages, and will not look really good until it is done. It may seep, it may peel, it may scab, .. it'll get a milky look, a shiny look, and then start to feel like skin and will look great.

Don't pick at it. Don't expose it to sun. Use sunblock ONLY after it has completely healed.

If you need a touch up after it's healed, then start the aftercare all over again.

    Good luck, it'll be fine.

  4. USUALLY once a scar has formed and peeled its healed but it may still be a bit sore for a few days

  5. You just want to keep washing it with warm water and a mild soap, like Dawn. And just add a moisturizer to it, something that is alcohol and sent free. Lubriderm makes a good lotion. And rub it on until it's done absorbing, and the leave it alone. =]

  6. Continue putting lotion on it until it stops looking crinkly. some colors take longer to heal than others like red. Moisturize it several times a day and if it ever gets the itchy feeling. I have had mine for a minimum of a few months and sometimes it will get dry and itchy if its really humid outside.
