Size does matter if your an elephant, other than that its the technique on how you use it. Only the first 2 inches of a female are the most nerves. If you had less then 2 inches I'd be concerned.

5.5 inches is within the average size, it is perfectly normal. Girth (width) is actually more important than length to girls.
