Is my toe broken? What type of injury is it if it isn't broken? ?

Okay, this morning I was trying to reach something, but apparently I jumped to high and landed on my toe the wrong way. It's the toe next to my big toe on my left foot.

But it's late at night, and it still hurts. I can still walk and move it, but it hurts. and it also looks a little swollen compared to my other toes on my right foot. also, when I move it, it feels like it doesn't move all the way and is cracking a bit.

If my toe isn't broken, what type of injury is this and how do I fix it?

  1. well it probably is broken or you just might of stubbed it really bad...i have done that before...it should be better by tomorrow or in 2 days.

  2. you probably did brake it. And you cant do anything for a broken toe. You and tape it to another toe, like a brace. But you cant do anything for a broken toe. It sucks.

  3. Sounds very much like you have sprained your toe.  It will swell up a bit and the joint will be tender.  You could try ice it and also some Tylenol/panadol/ibuprofen would help with the pain.  If it was dislocated or broken it would e so painful you wouldn't be able to walk on the foot and it would be so very very painful you couldn't think of anything else.  There isn't anything other than the ice and painkillers you can do for sore toes.  It will be better in two or so days.

  4. :O Strangely that happened to me! Except i'd cought my toe in a crack and had fell, it being stuck still >.< I never did go the hosptial over it...but the swelling whole cracking thing began to fade after four days of continuously walking on it. Although..it still looks rather strange now for a toe. I would suggest resting it and placing ice on it! I was stupid enough to carry on...but seriously, I think something is wrong with mine -_-' I don't know the specifics for the injury...but if the swelling doesn't go down within a couple of days, i'd advise seeing a doctor :-)

    Hope i've helped out.

  5. Sorry about your toe, I know it hurts (been there), but there is nothing you or a doc can do to "fix" it. Ice, pad it, put it up to reduce the swelling. Other than that it just takes time to heal. It sounds to me like you just jammed it good. Try to stay off it and give it time to heal. Well good luck.
