Question:

Is my toy plane valuable?

I have a diecast, matchbox commercial Scandinavian Airlines plane. It is a 727 aircraft, about 3.8 inches in length, rather large front wheel, but the 'Scandinavian' that is printed on the plane is spelled wrong. This is how it was printed: "SCANDINAVAN". Does this make it valuable?

  1. No, not necessarily, many copy-cat toy companies deliberately misspelled words so there would be no copyright infringement. And unless it says Matchbox ON it, it probably is not one. Only research would tell you, or an experienced collector. I doubt it's worth much, most toys that are valuable are from the '50's, '60's, and early '70s. You'll need to check Ebay or a similar source to try to find an exact match for sale, and then watch to see what it sells for.

  2. First I do not know where you got it. It is really Matchbox brand? Some manufacture actually did it printed wrong spelling. In that way the product is not intended for that company. In your case Scandinavian Airlines. The value will depend on the collector or number of unit produce.
