  1. Yes that is a painted, but know they are not going extinct. You see painted turtles are the same family as cooders and sliders, call around you will find 100s for adoptions by people that gave up on them. they are the most populer in trade for turtles, the red ears are.

  2. It is a painter turtle and they are not going extinct nor are they endangered. In fact they are quite common.

  3. give it a brush, paint and a canvas and find out

  4. Yes, that appears to be an eastern painted turtle.  I have one myself.  They are cute.

They are not endangered or going extinct.  They are actually very common, at least up here in the northeast.

  5. He is a boy with his long front nails, and too cute!

It looks like it could be apinter but did you know that

Sliders, cooter, painted, map, yellow bellied all are basically the same and require the same basic care?

They are not going extinct with all the over breeding. These guys were real big in the 1960's and then they faded out do to the salmanela illness they give off under 4". Now they are back with a vengence and being over breed.

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA/UVB for  8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that  they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system!

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They need leafy greens( Romaine, Butter lettuce. Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any leafy greens will do) for vitamins at least 3 to 4 times a week.

And a big tank 55 gallons or more..

    I hope this helps.

  8. it might be called a painted turtle.

  9. No painter turtles aren't going extinct! If your turtle has red, yellow, and like orange on the bottom of its shell it is a painter... That is where the name came from the bottom painted shell of the turtle...
