Question:

Is my unborn baby too big?

I had an ultrasound done at 26 weeks and the baby weighed 2.5 lbs. I am now almost 30 weeks and every book I have and every baby website says the baby should be about 2.5 lbs. But that's what he weighed 4 weeks ago! Does this mean I'm going to deliver a 10lb baby or could he come a little sooner?

  1. if he gets too large the doc will deliver you by c-section at the safest time. dont worry a bit!

  2. No, those ultrasound measurements can be off by 1 pound or more sometimes.  It is just an estimate based on the size of the baby inside you.  There's really no way of WEIGHING the baby while it's inside you.  Even if it is 10 lbs, thanks to modern medicine and the advent of the C-section, babies that are large are born every day everywhere and their mothers are just fine.  Having a C-section might not be what you want, but if you have to have one, be grateful that you are able to have one instead of dying in childbirth, like so many women used to do before C-sections were used.

  3. i dont think so i had an ultrasound at 36 weeks and was told my baby was  6.4 lbs and that by the time she was born she will be around 7-8 pounds.. which is very normal.. having a big baby doesn't mean you'll go into labor earlier

  4. I'm 27 weeks and all the books I have read said the baby should be around 2-2.5 lb. Don't worry about it. My friend's doctor told her that her baby would be 9 lb at birth and she came out at 6lb!

  5. Im 28 weeks last Friday I had ultrasound and my baby measure ahead and the tech estimated he about 3lbs, I saw midwife Monday and she didn't say nothing bad she was just like wow he measuring in the big side. She also talked to my doctor and he didn't say anything about it. My mom is saying the baby gonna be around 8 lbs according to her experience with my brother who at ultrasound measure about 3lbs, he was born 1 day before his due date. I think if the doctor think the baby is getting to big they will try to induce you few week early. The baby can come early or late their no way to actually know.

  6. Babies can grow at different rates.  My second daughter weighed 6 lbs by ultrasound measurements at 32 weeks, but she was only 6 lb 11 oz when she was born at 40 weeks and 2 days.
