YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!! it true. not only is it a waste of gasoline ( which we need alot now) but also a waste of car parts like tires. you know how much tires are burned and thrown away? SO MUCH MONEY WASTED! it true that other sports waste gas but at least they are cool, shoo. Nascar is watchin a bunch of cars go in a circle for hours.

Nope, not even close in fact an entire season in NASCAR uses less gas than a single day in a major city. Is a 747 flying from NY to Paris a waste of gas? Because 2 round trips use as much fuel as a NASCAR season. Now why don't you ask your neighbors why they own a large SUV, when a station wagon or minivan would suit their purposes just as well with a fraction of the fuel usage.

by the time you add up the amount of fuel(gas,diesel,jet fuel) on an average football weekend(for teams,fansofficals,) you've used more gas and other biofuels than a NASCAR race weekend.

Nascar is a "sport" of sorts   people like to watch it it is there

enjoyment.. you like other sports some people like Nascar get a grip Nascar has little to do with the price of gas. They use Racing Fuel  not std automotve gas. Your argument is without merit.

FYI I am NOT a Nascar fan.. but don't want you to bash any sport because it exists.

Wow people sure go ape to support NASCAR.

I'm married to a NASCAR fan (Carl Edwards has become my driver over the years.)

But (and I'm sure people will have their little conniption fits over this) I do think that it's a waste of gas.

Before you start yammering on about football games, let me say that I don't watch football.  I don't think that that NASCAR's use of gas is affecting our fuel prices, but looking at the sport as a whole a lot of it does seem wasteful.

Of course there are a lot of sports which I feel are wasteful in other ways.  I'm apalled at how much money players in several sports net in a year compared to how much most of us hard working Americans make.

So go ahead and check that thumbs down, but just remember as you do that there are only a finite amount of resources here on the planet and one of them just happens to be gas.

No, both NASCAR and the NHRA have been running on alcohol for years now! Now the flocks of fans that drive their SUVs and motorhomes to the events yes. So the actual race no; but the fans it supports yes! Same as any other sport though! A bunch of drunks driving to a football stadium and tail-gating before the game is the same thing. I have to change my original answer, Nascar does still run on gas!! They need to follow in the NHRA's footsteps and convert!

The local Police Department (police ONLY, not including Fire, Rescue, etc.) here in Lubbock, Texas uses more gas in 6 months than NASCAR does in an entire season. This is specially formulated fuel specifically made for NASCAR. It has no effect on our gas prices.

My answer is NO!

Actually, NASCAR still uses gasoline. NHRA top-fuel classes use nitro-methane, but the pro stocks use race gas.

But it might not be a bad idea for NASCAR to start using methanol. I've been told (correct me if I'm wrong) that it is a byproduct of making gas. Plus it makes more horsepower and runs cooler.
