I am thinking about going to National city bank to buy some stock in the stock market. Are their brokers good to go through and are they helpful when it comes to buying shares in the stock market?

  1. Banks and Insurance companies are the worst place for investment advice.  As a general rule their fees are high and advice is considered by many to be mediocre.

    Yes they are regulated. By regulation does not prevent them from giving poor advice.

    If you know what stocks you want..... go to Charles Schwab.  You can buy up to 5000 shares in a company for less than $13.00..

    .

    If you want to get advice (and pay for it);

    I don't think the following are great... but they're better than any bank;

    Edward Jones

    UBS

    Wachovia

    Merrill Lynch

    Be wary of any financial adviser pushing variable annuities

    Good luck!

  2. All stock brokers actions are controlled by S E C a government agency.  I think City Bank is as good as any.
