I've been having serious problems with my wrist (carpal tunnel) and my doctor just prescribed me to Neurontin. I have done a little research, and I know that it is used to help treat seizures. However, I would like to know if Neurontin is a steroid????????

  1. It is NOT a steroid.  It is an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. http://www.drugs.com/neurontin.html  It usually helps pain that involves a nerve.

  2. not a steroid, see the FDA link:

    http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/label/2005/2...

Also see the following link on carpal tunnel syndrome:

    http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec04/ch042/ch...

Note: I do not see where on the FDA information that it has been approved for carpal tunnel syndrome, or in the Merck Manual that it is suggested for therapy to treat this condition.

With regard to steroid information there are various types, anti-inflammatory steroids are sometimes used for this. Try using your other hand to click while on the computer, or better yet stay off the thing for a while.

  3. No it is not a steroid but it might cause weight gain

  4. Neurontin is a seizure medicine, but it is also used of lable for nerve pain.It blocks the abnormal signals -that cause your pain- from registering in your brain. You may feed drowsy and uncoordinated while you get used to the medicine. These side effects do subside. :) No steroid properties to it. Steroids help take down inflammation while the Neurontin blocks abnormal signals from sending the 'pain' messege.
