  1. i think back in the day that was what New Paltz was about..i mean with SUNY there it attracts ppl from all over...its a melting pot..very laid back...no one bothers anyone...a lot of activists with different causes...lots of art..music..sounds like you'll fit right in

  2. I go to SUNY New Paltz, and personally I think New Paltz's reputation as a hippie town is not really there anymore. I am in a similar way, people here are more spiritual where you find a lot of yoga studios, spiritual shops and things like that, and there is a Hippie Cafe in town called 60 main, but New Paltz is one of the most accepting places I have ever been to. People are very friendly and very laid back, and not to mention the beautiful Mohank Mountains. People here are very much politically involved and the town is generally liberal but not all, I did find some conservatives here as well, but I think you get a nice balance.

  3. New Paltz and Woodstock are the kind of towns people come to and forget to leave. The hippies are old or dead, but the soul lingers on. Great towns.
