  1. why would the devil need a number?  It's the freakin devil.

  2. 666 is most commonly used, however some thing his number is actually 696.

  3. I always thought 666 was the devil's number. Never heard of 9 being associated with the devil.

  4. Thats all just superstitions, there are no numbers associated with the devil. .

  5. Since the number 9 has long been associated with goddess worship, I can see where some Christians would believe that 9 is associated with the devil since they buy into the whole myth that goddess worship is devil worship.  There actually is no number assigned to the devil anywhere in Scripture or even in folklore.

  6. God is a perfect 7. The devil always falls short of God's deity.

  7. The whole number of the beast actually comes from Emperor Nero I of the Holy Roman Empire. Nero was known for being a brutal leader, and some proclaimed he was the antichrist until his suicide (by cutting open his jugular vein[s] and/or carotid arteries).

Along with that, the number is generally regarded as 666, although some proclaim the actual number is 616.

"In the Bible, the Book of Revelation (13:17-18) cryptically asserts 666 to be "the number of a man," associated with the beast, an antagonistic creature that appears briefly about two-thirds into the apocalyptic vision. The author challenges the reader to figure out the symbolism of this number, a challenge that has inspired mystics and would-be prophets ever since. It is assumed by many biblical scholars to refer to Emperor Nero. The number is arrived at by presenting Nero's name in Greek (Kaisar Neron) and transforming it into Hebrew whose letters also have a numeric value. The Hebrew letters would be q=100, s=60, r=200,n=50,w=6"

    And 616:

"616 ("six hundred and sixteen", or "six hundred sixteen" in American English) is believed by some Christians to have been the original Number of the Beast in the Book of Revelation in the Christian Bible. Different early versions of the Book of Revelation gave different numbers, and 666 had been widely accepted as the original number. In 2005, however, a fragment of papyrus 115 was revealed, containing the earliest known version of that part of the Book of Revelation discussing the Number of the Beast. It gave the number as 616, suggesting that this may have been the original."
