I quit being a Vegetarian, yet I was so upset - why is this world so cruel. I know people have to eat, but to hurt the animals in such a way !

  1. I did not hear it so it does not bother me.

  2. I didn't watch the programme but I don't think veal should be promoted in any way, shape or form. I'm glad veal is frowned upon as much as it is in the UK; long may it continue.

It sounds like Janet Street-Porter was trying to provoke a reaction to get herself noticed (after all that's what people in her line of work need to do).

  3. If you eat meat then who are you to judge?

Although I'm vegan, if people are going to eat meat then I'd prefer it if they ate veal in this country. Veal calves are instead sent to other coutries which causes them stress and the conditions are much worse. If these animals are going to be killed anyway then surely they should be killed in this country and not have to suffer any further.

What exactly is it that you're against? You eat meat, yet you say eating meat is cruel.

In an ideal world I wish everyone would eat no meat at all. But if they are going to eat meat then they should eat british meat. Veal calves shouldn't be packed up and sent to different countries in awful conditions where they'll be killed anyway. It's not like these calves would be sent to some idyllic farm if the british people didn't eat them.

Sorry I just really don't understand how you can be asking this. Why is this world so cruel? Surely if you eat meat then you can answer your own question.

  4. Ever see how they kill a chicken? Alot of animals that we consume are killed in a cruel way. Become a vegetarian again if you don't like it

  5. I'm neither alarmed nor distraught. Like it or not, we're meat eaters, and veal is just one of those things that we can eat and I for one am not going to let the "ethics" of others stop me ! ! !

  6. To be honest I'm alarmed to see Janet Street-Porter anywhere.

  7. I'm sorry, but what is the difference between eating veal, and eating any other immature meat such as lamb? It seems hypocritical that so much attention is being paid to it when most people are quite happy to have a bit of cute woolly lamb on their plates on a Sunday.

EDIT: I didn't assume everyone eats lamb, hence the words "MOST people", not "everyone".

  8. How can you criticise someone on food programme for promoting meat?

  9. YES WE SHOULD EAT MORE OF IT, IT TASTES GREAT

  10. I had a delicious osso buco (veal shanks prepared Italian style) about three days ago at a very nice local restaurant called Caffe Riace. The marrow was particularly delicate and tasty.

And no, it wasn't "milk-fed" veal.

  11. Veal is SICK!!!

  12. I haven't seen this week's yet (it's repeated later in the week at a better time for me,) but last week she did choose 'free range' for them, which seemed to me better 'quality' care than many, if not most, of our food animals have.

  13. I don't know why anyone would watch JSP or GR. Personally, I'd go a long way to avoid them!

By "veal" do you mean the newborn meat that was banned here years ago, or just young beef?

Sorry but I didn't see it. So I don't know what you what you mean about hurting animals either.

We have laws about that sort of thing (except for Bernard Matthews turkey bashers who are evidently above the law). Hmm I wonder who he had to bribe for that...

    Mondo cane alright....
