I recently purchased some Spiegelau Vino Grande Grappa Glasses made from non lead crystal or so it says on amazon.com. It had a notice on the webpage that said it was listed under the California's Prop 65 warning. If the glasses non lead then what is the warning for?

  1. CA is very good at informing its residents of any remotely dangerous chemical sources.

Prop 65 is a public health alert.

Prop 65 is a list of chemicals known to cause disease especially cancer. It's warnings does not mean that you are at high risk for the disease from using items, living in, or in any way associating with objects that contain chemicals on the list. It does however give "fair warning" that at certain levels these chemicals are known for causing the disease.

Legally the glasses you have purchased are under a certain level of lead content and thus are qualify for the "lead free" designation. Your health risks are so very extremely low that they are considered safe. Prop 65 is just giving you a heads up that lead is in fact in the glasses. Again the levels are very low and safe.
