I am planning on enlisting into the Army .I am finished with community college and I had this planned out for a while so I could have money to go to technical college. But many of my friends say its a bad idea because of the time.I don't care if I go to war or not.But I do wonder if it is a good time to join.Is it?If not when?

  1. I wouldn't! And I don't like the thought of my 18 year old son wanting to go either!

  2. Not unless you have a death wish...(Ok I'm sure that sounds harsh, but seriously c'mon) If you would like to enlist in the military I'd suggest something more along the lines of the Air force or Navy rather than the Army or Marines. The Navy and Air force tend to be last to be deployed,if at all...

  3. It's an excellent time to join!

You may want to talk with a recruiter about finishing up those last two years of school and go in as a commissioned officer.

  4. I think you should pray hard on that ...and try to do what you feel is best in your heart! I have a brother in Navy and a cousin in the Navy and a cousin in the Army and one in the Marines...love their jobs and their benefits...and everybody doesnt go to war as soon as they go in! And being able to go to so many different countries is awesome they say!

  5. It is a good time to join.

  6. if you've finished community college already then why would you enlist, if your set on joining the Army, go see a recruiter and tell them that you already have an AA degree and get them to pay for you to get a Bachelor's and then join as an officer. That will give you another 2 years to figure out what kind of job you want to do and for things to cool down oversees. Personally joining in the middle of a change of command (i.e. President) might not be the smoothest move, so think about going officer so you have a say in what you'll do and where you go.

  7. It's a great time to serve your country and build a great future for yourself and get money for college. Get out and see the world, get away from Mom and Dad and start living your life. Go for it!

  8. I don't recommend it, I mean if your ok with being treated like sh*t then sure join.  They are giving good bonuses right now because they need more people.  I would recommend that you go to www.girights.com to find out everything you need to before you enlist.

  9. Depending on what you plan to study in the mililtary (which has nothing to do with what you do when you come out) then you could go somewhere sweet...for example if its a chef school then they could send you to Hawaii, for sure if you join the Air Force...

Have you looked into the Coast Guard?  they have the same plans for school and you can stay stateside...or how about he reserves?  my friend is in that and is going to school and traveling and having a great education and being able to see just what war is about without getting into the front lines...

war is unfortuate, but if we look around the terrorist that bombed the World Trade Center are no less guilty than those who bombed Pearl Harbor...they are both an act of war on our country and if we who can defend those oppressed in those countries dont go and help out, then look out that could be over here in our own yards...

so good for you and your INTEGRITY...give a little now and when you come home a HERO then you can tell those who told you dumb stuff on this site to bug off...good for you...

  10. Consider the Navy, or become a Concientious Objector...no one can force you to fight, and If I had another chance to do it, I would join up. I've become more appreciative and respectful of our armed forces in my 37 years.

  11. Getting the Army to pay for your education so that you can personally advance to office status makes it generally a good time. You might want to consider weather of the basic training location in your analysis, missing important family events in the immediate future and whether you are physically fit for the training. It sounds like you want commit, your friends will be supportive once you make the first step.

  12. I had to either join or be drafted. This happened in 1969 during the Vietnam war.  So, i joined and a year later, i was in Vietnam. I was 19 and had a lot of maturing to do. I stayed in the army as an enlisted soldier for 12 years, then i decided to become a Warrant Officer. I served 8 years as a Warrant and served in Gulf War 1 and then came home and retired. I have never regretted a day served in the service and during my time in, i made numerous friends which i still communicate with today. The army and other services are what you make of them. I will say that yesterday was a good time to join, and any day following. Best of luck and thanks for wanting to serve our country.

  13. That depends on you.  If you join now- you will miss thanksgiving & christmas b/c you will probably be in basic training.  Also, you will most likely be in Iraq by February.  No matter what branch you are in you will go on very long tours of duties.  You won't know till you get your assignments.  Also, I suggest you join the Air Force.  You will go overseas for a shorter length of time.

  14. If you feel as though you want to carry out your civic duty by joining up, then power to you! And just because you join up doesn't mean you'd go to combat. There are a lot of military jobs here in the US and over seas that aren't in war-filled countries. And besides, there are so many jobs in the military-- since you are into the technical stuff, you could be put into a tech job. A lot of people who join don't have those skills and therefore you're more likely to be put into a position like that. The military can also pay for college later on.

I am so thankful for people like you for wanting to join up. My brother in law is in the army and served in Afghanistan and love it. If it's in your blood, it's in your blood! Serving this country is am amazing gift to give and you're very much appreciated!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

  15. i know that if you enlist now you automatically go over seas, but it all can change when we get a new president....
