I have a book from the late 70s that says this, but I don't know if its information is still accountable to today's standards.

  1. Conventional(fission) nuclear energy is almost fully developed and no major breakthrough is expected. The future lies in nuclear fusion, and there are a few projects in progress to make this clean and renewable energy commercially feasible.

You can learn more about nuclear fusion here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITER

  2. google  a term like "reactor years"........you will get links to how long the US and Royal Navies have operated reactors without one single problem.........and the answer is a very impressive 6,350 years!

yep, fission is well understood ...fusion is the next big challenge...

  3. Depends on what you mean by "developed."  If the question is "Does the technology permit the safe and economical use of nuclear energy for power production?", the answer is Yes.  If the question is "Are we using as much nuclear power production as the economy would support?", the answer is No.  Regulatory and political hurdles have crippled the development of nuclear plants for the past several decades; with the growing attention being paid to CO2 production as a possible contributor to climate change, this may change.

  4. In a general sense yes, although there are a number of different reactor designs still in the development stage.

  5. I dont think that it matters if it is developed or not. What is to be done with the insanely hazardous waste it creates? This stuff doesnt just biodegrade back into the enviroment. It remains a very real threat to everything it contacts decades after.

  6. i'm pretty sure it is, no telling what else is out there we "civilians" don't know about being developed.

  7. yes, but the fat rich bas!ards controling the oil will not let any other source of enegery pass through. cause that would mean losing money for them.

Did you know that the US doe snot even have a environment policy? -
