  1. Nuclear power offers numerous advantages as a source of electric energy:

Nuclear power plants have a record of safety excellence that dates back to 1957 when the first commercial nuclear plant began operating; using proven technology, nuclear plants have operated reliably to meet electricity needs; uranium, the fuel for nuclear plants, is a relatively inexpensive fuel that is abundant throughout the world; and nuclear power produces no air pollutants.

Because of these and other advantages, utilities have relied on nuclear power to meet an increasingly large portion of their customers’ electricity needs.

  2. It is perfect - it does not emit nasty gases like coal, oil and gas do. Nuclear is the future for Britain.

  3. Nuclear power is the answer......if the Liberals would get on board.

France is powered by 80% nuclear.

  4. sometimes it's good but mostly it's just bad. instead of using nuclear power try to use an alternative resource more like solar, hydroelectric, etc.

  5. No. The risk of nuclear power is a great one - look at the price the Russians paid with Chernobyl.

The best power is green power - Solar, Wind. But since that costs more the government certainly don't like it. And of course there are the arrogant ones concerned about the aesthetic problems.

  6. it produces most energy but cannot be easily disposed of but wind and sea power is good you already know tht but try reaserching it

  7. Usually nuclear pawer it is very bad  !!!!!!!!!!!!!    but we can use instead of nuclear pawer the falowing stuffes...

    .1-petrol

      2- solar system

      3- water pawer

      4- electricity pawer

      5-michanical pawer...........(  etc )

                                                                  with best wishes

  8. The trouble with nuclear power generation is that it also generates radioactive waste. No country in the world has developed a realistic waste disposal mechanism. The problem involves storing this waste, safe from all disturbances for 10,000 years. The waste that has already been illegally dumped poses a problem that will not go away - in the future this problem will get worse.

There are methods for constructing nuclear power plants that would greatly reduce this problem but because our society values quick profit over sustainability, there is no political or commercial incentive to explore better options.

World leaders are doing as little as they can to explore sources of alternative energy - there's just too much money to be made while petroleum is relatively cheap. The fall back position for world energy is nuclear and coal. This is not a very sustainable solution but it's something we can do in the short-term and that's all they really care about.

  9. The amount of sunlight that reaches the Earth’s surface in an hour contains enough energy to meet the world’s current energy needs for a year.

It is only a matter of advancing our technology to harness this energy. Solar Power is the only renewable, clean, aesthetically and ecologically friendly energy source.

As a temporary source of power, nuclear is acceptable. However, nuclear waste disposal is a serious issue that can never have a fail-proof feasible permanent solution. There is only a limited amount of Nuclear fuel in the world. As soon as we get rid of the use of fossil fuels, we'll be trying to replace nuclear fuel. Even if cold fusion becomes a reality, the dangers of nuclear power plants remain. Cold fusion will consume water and add helium to the atmosphere. Is this a good idea in the long run, considering the world energy demands?

  10. us and them

    false dichotomy

  11. We should be relying on wind-mills they don't look good but they do the job and its eco-friendly and with the good brittish weather we'll have more energy than we think we'll have!!

  12. Nuclear power is a very clean form of energy use. If the waste is properly disposed of, and it is conducted by proffessionals, it is perfectly safe. It does not emit any C02, and produces electricity without hardly as much impact as other methods.

  13. Like any source of power there are pros and cons.

Nuclear power plants actually emit less radiation than coal fired plants. Nuclear power is far less polluting in the actual power production process than coal, gas or oil fired plants. It also produces very little green house gas. Nuclear power plants are able to operate 24/7 as opposed to renewable sources such as wind or solar power. Nuclear power is more efficient than power from renewable sources. Nuclear power doesn't contribute to global warming anything like older types of power production.

But nuclear power production has its drawbacks. Even though state of the art nuclear plants have little risk of catastrophic accidents there is fear that problems could occur. (New plants are not like Chernobyl.) Thus not many people would say to power boards, "I'm happy to live near one."

Nuclear power plants need huge amounts of water for cooling and there are concerns with the effects of the warmed water on streams, rivers and thus the environment. There is also the concern over ability to supply water to the plants. Do we dam more rivers? What if climatic problems make it difficult to gaurantee water supply? Some people are concerned about radiation leakages. There have been some recently in Japan but authorities have said they have been at a non dangerous levels.  It is difficult to get the public to accept such assurances. There is the problem of safe  transportation, disposal and storage of radioactive waste with the need for 'safe' storage for thousands of years. There is the fear that waste products could fall into unsafe hands to be enriched and used in nuclear weapon programs.

Nuclear power plants also take many years in development and commissioning. That is why even some supporters of nuclear power say it is not a quick solution to increasing world power needs. Many believe that nuclear power production is the only power source capable of meeting the world's growing power needs.

The US and some other western nations do not trust socalled 'rogue states' who they fear may use claims of developing nuclear power programs to hide development of nuclear weapons programs.

So is nuclear power good? Make up your own mind.

  14. It's the best power source for use now. It avoids greenhouse gases and pollution, and runs 24 hours a day.

Other non-pollution sources like solar and wind are too expensive and depend on sun/wind, run only a limited number of hours per day.

  15. Like w/ anything, whether it is used for right or for wrong depends on the minds of men, it's kind of like a hand gun...It can be used for target practise, shooting bottles, shooting birds..or shooting people who are misjudged as criminals...Or actually are criminals...So remember Nuclear power has no will of its own...Anything can be used but whether it's A good thing, or a bad thing...

People decided that! I think we should use technology in a much more environmentally friendly way..To make this easier..What ever that might be.
