  1. Hi there

Its been said many times already but okinawan Kobudo jutsu is the traditional style and home of the nunchaku.

As great as Bruce was you can blame him for so many other martial artists taking a liking to the weapon.

The simple fact is you can be the greatest batton or chain twirling show off in the world but if you dont study the traditional forms from where the weapon came from you will never understand its application. Most of the flashy forms you see in XMA have very little substance.

  2. Nunchaku is the Japanese term used to describe two stick tied together.  It is also the common name of the weapon "nunchaku" in the United States.

This was a common farming tool throughout Asia.

There is a Korean and Chinese equivalent.  The Korean language has two terms for this, the names are "ee chul bong" or "tahn do li ga" for nunchaku.

I don't know the Chinese names.

Our Tae Kwon Do school does practice nunchakus.  We call them nunchakus.  They are good for exercise and good for hand/eye coordination and make some nice forms.  They are not a focus of class at all, but we do use them.

  3. Japan once occupied Okinawa and confiscated all weapons. The Okinawans developed techniques to use tools as weapons. The nunchaku was a farmer's flail for threshing grain, the kama was a sickle for cutting it and the tonfa is a millstone handle. The Koreans certainly did not use such things as weapons before the Okinawans did. Other countries copied such usage.

  4. Nun-chucks came from "China" always has been always will be no matter what Okinawan, Korean, etc. etc.  BS tries to change history.

  5. Nunchaku is from Okinawa.

It is one of the weapons of Okinawan Kobujutsu.

    Not from Korea at all.

  6. Tae Kwon do is from Korea.

Nunchaku is a farming tool from Okinawa.
