Is one 20mb line enough for 10 computers?

Question

I will soon move into a house with 10 people and I just wanted to see if everything would be ok with 10 pple using a 20mb line. Everyone would connect wirelessly to a router and they will mostly use the line for light internet surfing and occasional streaming video.

20mb/10 = 2mb That's much faster than dial up. It's almost the same as DSL. It should be fine, but that's not a great speed. However, if no one is using the speed of the internet, then you can get about 20mb to yourself. But if someone is downloading and using all the speed, you will get nothing too.

Yeah, just use the router's QoS (quality of service) settings to keep anyone from monopolizing the entire connection. Prioritize web traffic and games, put P2P in the bottom of the barrel, so some jerk's stupid torrents won't prevent people from checking their email. QoS settings vary by router and firmware, so I can't really post a detailed guide. For reference, I use a Linksys WRT54G V4 with Tomato firmware, and I handle two laptops, two desktops, and two game systems on my network at the moment.

It's enough as long as you don't have 5 people streaming P2P software, which undoubtably they will be.

if all you are doing is browsing and a bit of video streaming  you will mostly be OK thats 2MB per connection , thats if people keep of the torrents, limewire and such.otherwise the connection will grind to a holt.

One thing to note is a normal wireless router will struggle to connect 10 seoerate clients wirelessly you will more than likely need a MIMO router

2 MB per connection is still 40 times faster than dialup
