It would save a lot of hassle. Maybe not trains but what about buses?

  1. we pay for it whether we know it or not.  there are taxes for that funding.

  2. It is not feasible.  You pay for it twice.  First in taxes and second when you pay your fare.  If you do not what to pay a fare  all they will do is raise your taxes.

  3. No, not feasible.  Where is the money going to come from to pay the bus drivers, the mechanics, the payroll persons, the person that hires/fires the employees, the funds needed to buy the buses?  Taxes.  Not free.

  4. If you are 60 or over public transport is free now on the buses.

  5. yes of course if you dont mind paying 20 grand a year in taxes each.

  6. Not truly free. Since most public transportation is owned and operated by the cities where they are, the cities would have to increase taxes somewhere to cover the costs. They usually don't do this because it is unfair to force some people to pay for a service they don't use. As it is now, many cities do subsidize public transit costs with taxes to keep fares as low as possible.

  7. Not to my understanding. Someone must pay the piper. A tax to pay for a "free" ride would only encourage traveling for entertainment. There is no free lunch nor does free ride make any sense.

  8. I think the councils will hike the prices up for all the under 65's otherwise they will make a serious loss. Could you imagine the coach operators with a coach full of free passengers??? Why would they want to keep operating? I think its a bad idea

  9. NO. Because some where along the line it has to be paid for. who pays?  You the taxpayer in one form or another.

  10. Sure it's feasible, if you're willing to have it supported out of your taxes.
