This may sound silly - and thanks for answering my question Mimi - but do I need to declare if power bars are in my carry on bag?

  1. Mini was right

Power bars ( fitness) are food items and should be declared when entering Australia.

Basically if its made of food products or natural woods of any sort declare it. if its processed & packaged in sealed wrappers you should be ok with bringing it in But if you don't declare & get caught it wont matter if they are legally able to be brought it in or not, you will loose it & get fined for false declaration.

  2. Shelly,

Any food and in which ever bag needs to be declare to Australia's custom. If you don't declare it, you may get lucky passing the custom but while you're waiting for your bags in the belt, there're dogs sniffing around. If you get caught for not declaring ANY food, you'll have to explain yourself and you get fine :-).

Just declare all food, most of the time they'll let you go (especially power bars) and if they're still in the wrapper as well and contain no banned substance.

    Hope this helps :-)

My old answer for the first question:

No, you don't have to declare power bars in your suitcase. Once you reach Australia though, you need to declare to custom all food items. Australia has strict rules on people outside Australia bring in food inside Australia. If it's not a banned item (your power bar has no steroid or any type of banned item) and it's packaged well (still sealed, i.e. not open) and the ingredients are listed somewhere, you'll get away bring them into Sydney.

I brought back to Melbourne once 1 huge bags of Gingerbread from Lake District, UK, it's just wrapped in paper, and I declared them to the custom and told them what they were and they let me go :-).

  3. all food/plant/animal products MUST be declared when you enter Australia if not you could get a find

if the product is OK you keep it if not it is destroyed with no fine to you
