Is online homeschooling a great option for a teenager?

I am optioning for homeschool because of the substandard eduction in public school.

Also, when it comes to socializing, the public schools don't help to buid great character. There are drugs, s*x, and a enourmous amount of peer pressure that keeps children unfocused on their school work.

Because of public school I have had behavioral problems with my teenager, she says that she feels pressured to do the things that she has done to fit in.

  1. no.

teenagers need to be around people and be with friends and

    socialize.

  2. Depends upon the kid and how social they are, if they are already anti-social, dont do it, if they have good friends and do after school activites but public school isnt working, I would consider it just make sure you know the kid well and know its the right thing to do.

    GOOD LUCK!!

  3. I think homeschooling is a great option for the reasons you've listed.

As for online homeschooling, it really depends on the student.  You really have to be self motivated and able to work independently.  Here are some of the pros and cons, and some possible providers:

    Good luck!

  4. Depends on the teenager.  I feel the school system is a joke, teaches very little and pigeon holes kids into a geek, jock or glamor type person.  When I got out of highschool I found out how very little I learned.  In school you can only learn at the speed of the dumbest kid in class.  Homeschooling allows you to go at your pace and no one else.  As for the social skills that are a MUST.  There is band, sports, YMCA, local old folks home and probably a 1000 other extracurricular activites that can be done and are a better education then making sure you are wearing the "in" thing to fit in.

  5. It is for some, it isn't for others. I think you should work closely with your parents/tutor and be highly motivated if you want online school to work for you.

  6. no teens should be able to socialize

  7. Yes, it's a great option. I highly suggest it.

  8. i kno...tats wat almos all parents are going thru..i call it very unfortunate, the world of school is no more safe it is a world of violent shcool crimes and drugs...i count online schools and universities hundred times better ...ther is only one hitch and that is how to establish the accreditation of the online school you have chosen...either its a genuine school or a fake diploma mill...however since im a career consultant and come across such like questions on daily bases...i can suggest you some very good online sources for top ten accredited schools

  9. Yes. i am 14 and i do an online school. i been doing this for 2 years.  In high school you can take classes there or at the skill center where you can take automotive law enforement daycare cosmotoligy and many other things. Which is very cool.  My sister has gone to collage because of a program there.  I think it is Great. email me (click on my avaitor)

You still have friends but not at stupid school!!

You can get a diploma not just a ged. Please email me though

  10. if you are in a district with poor education, I highly recommend homeschooling or cyber charter for your daughter.  This is the new wave in schooling, and your child will still have her friends and you can also make new opportunities for her to socialize.

Some traditional high schools have become horrible places full of bullying, peer pressure, drug dealing, s*x romps, and most of all...poor education.

we pulled our daughter out of public school in second grade, due to the poor curriculum.  She went to private school til 8th grade (thats as high as the school went) and now is enrolled with pacyber.  We are very happy with it.  The school has field trips, a family link organization, and "fun Thursdays" at one of their office branches.  I look at my neices that are still in that school, and I am horrified at their language, how the older one talks about s*x all the time (she is only 13, 2 yrs younger than mine), has already had multiple boyfriends, and really lacks educationally.

Kids today keep in touch with IM, emails, texting and so forth, that removing them from the negative atmosphere that seems to be spreading throughout schools will not harm her (or as the naysayers call it- "socially r****d" her) in anyway.

  13. im a teenager who was in a similar situation as ur daughter.. or teen.. son.. im currently in grade 11 and when i use to be in highschool i felt pressured to skip classes all the time.. do drugs.. s*x and all that.. now im home schoold.. its better.. i work independntly and i go to this alternative school where its only for 2 hrs twice a week.. queit invorment.. the work is all from the public highschools.. they teach acedemic level or applied level.. college level or university level.. its great! I dont know if they have that where u live but its certanly something to look into.. having a part time job for the social interaction is also good idea for ur teen.. thats what i have too.. so its great! and i still keep in touch with my freinds through facebook and msn..

  14. I am not a proponent of homeschooling in general.  For most parents, they are not able to ensure a balance of curriculum nor can they give the attention needed for the more difficult or technical subjects.  Most people don't have a science/computer lab in their home nor can they teach music, art, or gymnastics.  So be prepared to either have your child miss out on this important part of their schooling or to pay for these things outside the home.  Most parents either they work or lack a sufficient working knowledge of the subject matter to teach them at home.    There are, however, reasons to homeschool, and if a child's safety is an issue, then nothing is more important than the safety of your child.    There are ways to have a teenager socialize, that can be monitored and can occur off school grounds.   Sport programs, art classes, drama classes, etc are all ways to socialize that are in a safe and monitored environment.  Check in yuor local area to see what is available.  Regardless, if you make the decision to homeschool or not -  there is no substitute for an involved parent.  .

  15. hi i am a homeschooler, and i do an online homeschool. i love it!!!  you can move at your own pace, not at everyone elses.  and  the teachers make sure you stay one on one with them. unless your child is a major socialite, as long as she has friends i think homeschooling is great!!

    hope that helps :)

  16. I hate being homeschooled....

    Some people love it!

    I hate it....

It's the worst thing to happen to me....

    But that's just me....

I wouldn't suggest it to anybody....

And no offense to you or your daughter (I mean this with the greatest respect)

But tell her to GROW UP! There's so many other things to worry about in the world!

But you can't shelter her eithier....

    =)

    All my best!
