How do I know whether my connection is secure or not? Can somebody hack into my computer?

  1. There is no way that you will be hacked, and most people wouldn't care anyways. The only connection troubles you will have is if you have a bad internet connection.

Most of the reputable online pokers have mechanisms that are designed to protect both their players and the poker website itself.  They often use either Verisign's or its subsidiary Thawte.  If rooms are protected by Verisign or Thawte, the site is secured. The hackers, online opponents cannot discover personal info such as your name, your address, your credit card number, your password, and everything else that goes back and forth between your computer and the online game’s server. Also, other players cannot use hacking software to peek at your hand.

The major poker sites are just as trustworthy as most traditional businesses, if not more so.  After all, their only real asset is their reputation.  Just use common sense, and protect your online poker password like you would a password for online banking, etc.  and you'll be fine.  Good luck at the tables!
