Question:

Is only a passport an acceptable form of identification when flying?

I just got married and have a flight booked under my maiden name. I would like to change my name before the flight since I have the time to do so now. Of course I need to show identification under my maiden name - can I just show my passport as identification? I was thinking I can change my SS & Drivers License and wait for my passport. Is this acceptable?

  1. As long as you stay in country, no problem, don't need one. Even if going to canada or mexico, passcard will be sufficient. Just when going abroad you may need a valid passport.

  2. it depends on where you are going. if you are travelling abroad, then yes, passport is the only accepted identification form.

  3. For flying internationally, you need a passport

in the same name as your ticket.

For domestic flying, any "government issued photo id"

is ok.  If your passport matches your ticket,

    you're good to go.

I think your plan is OK.

(It won't hurt to bring along your marriage papers

and anything else that makes clear what is going on,

just in case.  But for starters, just show an ID that

matches the ticket and let THEM ask any questions.)
