Is organized religion the downfall of society?

I've asked this question before and no one made a solid argument. What is your opinion?

No, it's organized religion trying to be part of the Government. If people want to believe in a higher power, then that's good for them, improves morale and all that.

When people believe original interpretations of ancient text over proven scientific fact, THEN, we have a problem.

When members of any given religion start forcing their morals onto those not of their religion to the detriment of society (g*y marriage, abortion, no s*x ed) then we have problems.

But religion itself is not bad, no.

Well organized religion never benefits a society

Organized religion promotes ignorance and intolerance.

The US(most religious industrialized country) is 2nd worst in test scores among industrialized nations.

The US has the 2nd highest % of citizens who reject evolution among Western countries.

Only 2 states allow g*y marriage, even though denying rights of others based off of scripture is unconstitutional

Also the most religious states(bible belt) tend to have higher crime rates and poor education compared to the rest of the country

The ONLY pros I see from organized religion is many charity groups are religious groups

But then again, just because you can order a salad at McDonald's doesnt mean it is a healthy resuarant
