'goldenro', our founders didnt create a 2 party system, they were against political parties PERIOD:

In his 1796 farewell, Washington warned: "The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism

  1. Actually, if you really see, you can admit the founders were very wise forming 2 parties.  The tension and disagreements can actually make the system stronger and no one group is always in a position of more power.  It is a system of checks and balances.

  2. Mexico is an example of a multi-party democracy.  There are about 7 or 8 parties.  However, during the pre-election campaigning, they form alliances with one or the other of the top parties.  It's kind of like our primary system.

Ultimately they end up with 2 or 3 top candidates, with the others throwing their support behind their favorite.  The differences in the smaller parties are negligible.  The Green Party,Verde)  for example, always lines up with the most liberal party (PRD), and so on.  They basically get the same results as we do with the dominant 2 party system.  Since there is such a strong division between liberal and conservative in America, a 3rd party of moderates wouldn't be a bad idea.

I don't know about turning us into a 3rd world country, except that the current gridlock is hindering any real progress by either side.

  3. With more and more people being able to vote for the party that will give them less incentive to be productive, we will become a 3rd world country.

  4. Nope.  At least, not yet nor in the foresee-able future.

  5. We had our chance to create a 3rd party back in 1992 with Ross Perot.  But we blew it.  Now we have Americans voting for candidates NOT because they actually support them, but because the alternative is even worse.  I have a deep dark feeling that the founding fathers of our country are rolling over in their graves.
