Is our eyes transparent?

Everyone noe light pass through the iris and to the back of the eyeball. Then, it will send electrical signals to the brain enabling us to see. Since light can pass through, does it mean our eyes are transparent?

  2. The parts of the eye that the light travels through are transparent, yes. They have to be, otherwise light couldn't reach the retina.

    The lens is transparent. Now, the eye isn't completely "solid" all throughout, like an apple, for example - instead, its got the white, outer wall, called the sclera, and is hollow within. It's filled with a gel-like substance called vitreous humour, which is transparent, of course, yes.

    Note that the iris isn't transparent. That's the coloured part of the eye. Light enters through the pupil instead, which is the black part in the middle of the iris. The iris controls the size of the pupil to accomodate to different lighting conditions.
