Is our government blind?

All day politicians have been on the news telling us "If Mugabe doesn't accept change, or carries on with his corrupt and muderous ways, we will have to take action against him"...Have they not read the media reports in all the newspapers and on the web, showing Mugabe's men rounding up innocent cervillians in markets etc. and attacking, raping, tortouring and disabling those who do not have the red mark on their finger showing that they voted.

Why are they ignoring this information, and carrying on as if nothing has happened? Why are they so scared of Mugabe?

  1. Because we are in Iraq and we are there illegally and there are about a million of them dead so far and people want to elevate Mr Mugabe to be evil when in fact the real evil guys are in the WHITE HOUSE and are starting WW3 as we type and we are going on about a small 3rd world African country that has been occupied by foreigners for many years and a paid stooge to cause trouble so people can say why don't we re colonise it and it will be all OK. But it wont. If we study "our" interference in IRAQ and we look closely we will find 3,5 million of them scattered around the mid east with no food or medicine. In Syria, in Iran, in Jordan - while our troops are occupying their land and selling off their oil to the vice presidents company and rich business. I know this all does not make good comparison but the last time I read about Zimbabwe, 80 people were killed.

All this shrill propaganda is to encourage an occupation and rip them off again as "we" did before. Best leave them alone is what I say. Its no longer western business there. Mugabe wanted the best for his people but years of western sanctions have decimated them and forced them to think (Don's forget most of them are uneducated anyway and if you think Mugabe is responsible, what do you expect them to think - and you've been to school) - Point is we must lobby our governments to remove sanctions, because we are causing untold suffering and misery there daily in the name of returning the farms to WHITE farmers - because that's what this is all about. That is why there is very little or no help from AFRICAN countries on this. They have all been there before.

  2. We've already unconstitutionally, illegally and immorally invaded one sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States, and look what a mess that's become!

Bush, however, would attack in a heartbeat if there was OIL to be had.   -RKO-  06/29/08

  3. You complain, but give us no solutions, you should be a politician

  4. What do you suggest we do? Invade and install a democracy. Its not our responsibility. If your so concerned buy a plane ticket and change the world.

  5. We had to solve our problems here and, they have to do the same.

  6. All gov are blind . Zim does not have  OIL!! Thats the problem

  7. They're not blind but we can't continue to go around the world as the "global police man" and start wars in other peoples' countries. The Middle East is a mess and a lot of it is our fault. We can't just invade the country and fix it, some other way of getting him out of power and allowing the country to achieve democracy on its own has to be found. I personally don't know what to suggest, I'm not claiming to have a solution, but we can't continue to go around starting wars in other counties.

  8. Mugabe may be an evil little S**t - but he's not stupid.

He knows that the only members of the UN with the b@lls to take action are the USA and the UK.

The US Government can't afford to from the political popularity stance already being involved in Afghanistan and Iraq which are now proving rather unpopular back home.

The British Government can't afford to get involved from a manpower point of view, Sir Jock Stirrup, Head of the Armed Forces, has made it clear that British forces are now operating beyond their capability. The UK needed to send another 2000 men to Afghanistan - we scraped together 230.

There is not the manpower available to commit to another war. And war will be the inevitable outcome of interfering - Mugabe and his followers will go to ground and fight a war of terror as per Afghan and Iraq.

  9. Hon our gov't is blind deaf and dumb

  10. it isn't for our country to interfere with another country.  the UN is supposed to help the country and send in troops if it deems it necessary.  if america went to the aid of the poor, tortured people, the rest of the world and anti-war activist would say that america is trying to take over the country (for oil probably).  most of the other countries and anti-war activist don't care about the torture and suffering of these people.  and no, america isn't afraid of mugabe or his cronies.

  11. Because we haven't got enough soldiers to send even if Brown wanted to. There is no oil in Zimbabwe and we are already fighting 2 wars as it is. There are sanctions against Mugabe, but they only seem to hurt the very people that he is hurting. So, not much you or I can do right now. Britain gave them independence years ago after THEY wanted it, and we can no longer accept any responsibility.

  12. Rhodesia was one of the most prosperous countries in Africa under Ian Smith, the black people of Rhodesia wanted black  rule, well now they have their wish. Zimbabwe is nothing to do with us, maybe they deserve somebody like Mugabe rather than Ian Smith.

    Remember Uganda? enough said methinks.

  13. not so but some time have to act like that [ this is politics]

  14. The Government is not blind.

This is a matter of disinterest. There is no profit to be made in such affairs. The current regime in the White House comes from a business culture, and not a humanitarian one. If Mugabe had oil, uranium, etc., then I am certain that the U.S. army would have already stepped in.

I'm sure the U.S. Government is fully aware of conditions on the ground and have observers in place. Just because they don't do anything, does not mean that they are unaware.

  15. to be honest our government is just as feuked up (well maybe not just as), talk about slave trade and S***e. the worlds a feuked up place.

to add: possibly they dont want to make the same mistakes as Iraq?

  16. because thats in Africa and quiet frankly I dont give a s*** about them.  We have enough problems here.

  17. Maybe you could tell us what you think we should do - with the caveat that you be willing to be one of the people who goes an implements that policy.

  18. I personally could care less about their problems, and our government should feel the same,I didnt vote people into office to  babysit every d**n third world country on earth,i voted for them to heal OUR wounds.homelessness,HEALTH CARE,rising fuel prices education, benefits for veterans etc,ya know, those pesky lil subjects all the do gooders seem to over look when some other country needs a freaking band aid.s***w them take care of what inside our borders first!

  19. If Zimbabwe had substantial oil reserves, we'd have had our military there by now, alongside the Americans. Mugabe would be in the same place as Saddam. But, as the problem is the murder, torture and rape of civilians, well, we've got to think about it a bit, have a few meetings, come up with some ideas.

  20. Because if someone steps in, but makes it worse, they don't want the reputation of being the bullies.

  21. They're not scared of Mugabe. Mugabe is some crackpot who happens to have the most guns. That's how it is in a lot of places in Africa. He who has the most guns gets to be leader. There's no changing that, in my opinion, it's just how their societies will function. Not our business to force them to change.

  22. I read a story in the times today that Mugabe's workers killed a baby's legs because his father supported Mugabe's opponent. The Election is a joke. Perhaps it's because they have nothing to gain by removing Mugabe, hate to cynical, but i doubt America or the Uk would have gone into Iraq to remove Saddam if there was no oil.
