I am aware of the difference between the political system and the economic system. What I mean when I say that is our government truly democratic is when economically, is the real power coming from the people (ie...votes), or is it coming from corporate kickbacks that sway politicians?

  1. Democracy is our political system.

    Capitalism is our economic system.

They coexist more or less successfully and have done so throughout our history.  Capitalism is regulated by our government to some extent.  This is constantly being "fine tuned" by the various political interests.

  2. Lisa ,democracy and capitalism can co exist.its the abuse of these factors that causes the trouble.

  3. The problem is folks keep re electing those who abuse their political power. For example, Congressman Jefferson from N.O. caught red handed taking bribes with $90,000 hidden in his freezer but has not been tried yet. He was re elected to office and will probably be again.  In his district it is well known that dead folks also vote.
