Is our technology really advancing?

Question

Science fiction has always predicted human technology to be exponentially incredible in the future, but comparing our technology to the predicted technology, and then comparing it over the past 50 years, are we really advancing aswell as we think we are?

Personal opinions of course..

Science fiction is just that fiction.  As far as our level of advancement,,,, think where we were 100 years ago, then 200 before that, and then 1000 before that.  

The exponentiality of it comes from linking people together, which has happened to a greater degree in the last 50 years; and of course more recently with the advent of networked computers.

well yeah, there a lot of things that were predicted in sci fi that didn't happen but there are a h**l of a lot of things that wern't predicited that did happen, like he internet, i don't think that was predicited but if it was then what about ow small mobile phones have gotten
