We are always shocking each other when we walk by. I didnt really think there was anything abnormal about that, but yesterday i went to change the channel manually and i ended up shocking the tv. it immedietly turned off, then tried to turn on, then turned off again and keeps doing that over and over. Until i just unplugged it

It is a brand new tv, and pretty pricey- is there anything we can do?

Would warranty cover it?

  1. It WILL fall under your warranty....there is NO way they can tell what made what short out. I promise you. Just dont open it up. and dont tell them what happend. just tell them what it does.

  2. A static shock can zap certain chips in there and s***w it up.  That is why electronics are sent in static safe bags.  Just tell the warranty people that the thing just died.  In reality they can decline the claim because you caused the shock that fried it, but they should design the unit so it grounds shocks harmlessly, and does not pass them to sensitive electronics.

  3. Try plugging it back in again.  Unplugging may have reset a relay.  you might also check for a reset button on the back of the set.

  4. Usually electrical damage of and kind is not included in the standard factory warranty but, most extended warranties offered from the vendor usually add that kind of protection. Try:

    1. Keeping it unplugged for a day then plug it back in and see if that fixes the problem.

    2. Calling the manufacturer's warranty office and tell them that it just stopped working. Dont tell them anything about the shock.

    3. Maybe your homeowners covers it?
