  1. My guess is the main thing you need to look at is resale value. In some areas of the country condos appreciate very well and sell quickly. In others they appreciate slowly  and are very difficult to sell. As far as the other things you mentioned, you still have to maintain a condo,  pay common area  maintenance fees, property taxes, etc. You may not have to cut the grass, but you are surely paying someone else to do it!

  2. That question is almost impossible to answer as you've asked it. For the same square footage in the same neighbourhood, a condo usually costs less than a house, at least where I live. If a property is worth less, the property taxes are usually less, but find me a place where property taxes are likely to go down and I'll be there. A condo has less stuff to fix in some ways because it shares things like exterior walls, roof, plumbing etc with other units. The interior stuff is about the same for both. On the other hand, in a condo you have to pay a maintenance fee which pays for maintenance and some repairs that you might be able to do yourself in a house but can't in a condo. About all you can do is compare costs for each in your area and see what you come up with.

  3. There are so many questions to your question. Where do you live? What is the size and value of the home? The condo? Do you have condo fees to pay in addition to utilities? Do you have a neighborhood watch that you pay money into in your home neighborhood? What are the taxes on both? How far would you have to be driving to go to work? How much maintenance on both?  It's very hard to weigh one against the other without knowing more. Hope you find a home that works for you.
