  1. If you use that logic through your whole life you will never experience anything exciting.

I have been riding for many years. Have I crashed? Yes. Did I have the correct safety gear that minimized the damage to my body? Yes. Have I done track days and got advanced skills training to hone my skills? Yes.

There is risk in everything. Even sports. Prepare and train yourself for what you are doing and you'll be much better at it. You already know that if you are good enough at baseball to get a scholarship.

  2. Riding a motorcycle is as dangerous as you make it. Can I promise  you will never have a wreck no. But if you wear your helmet, take a MSF course  and ride like a normal sane person not like a squid doing stunts and trying to make every road a GP course then  you will have no more to worry about than a car.

  3. A car is not a tank.  You can wrap it around a pole just as easy as you can a bike.    If you plan on using the vehicle to play "bumper cars" with, then you would last longer in a car by about 1 hit.

If you drive, treating everyone else as a total idiot,(so that means with respect), you can last for years on a bike without incident.

Drive to be seen in their mirrors(not hidden in their blind spots) and think for the other driver and you will make it just fine.

  4. Majority of people who own bikes die. If death is worth it to you, sure. The dead dont use yahoo answers so of course I will get the thumbs down here since nobody who has experienced it can speak up.

  5. Play ball and save your a$$. I let a scholarship go a long time ago and have been kicking myself in the a$$ ever since. If nothing else happens you'll at least have your education.

  6. Without treading any other answers I will say this. Only YOU can decide that.

  7. No.  Finish school.  Then get a hog.

  8. There are diffrent things you can do to lower your "the risk".  If you plan on wearing the proper safety gear and committed to responsible riding then you should be fine.

  9. no you don't need to ride a motorcycle right now.  wait till you get older. and i hate to say it- but a simple twist or dog or rock in the road could cuase you to have an injury that might break your arm- which would make you lose your scholarship.

think about all of those that are supporting on you right now to get an education and those in the future *aka children/wife* that need you to make smart decisions now to ensure a better future.

  10. No...not if you learn to "manage" the risks!

  11. Well obviously this is the motorcycle forum and many here are avid riders and will say it is worth the risk, but only you can really make that choice. Bikes are awesome, but you have your entire life to ride if you want. I wouldn't risk just a small fall that could easily injure a knee or shoulder. That's just my 2 cents.

  12. Hey Sawadee Krub...EVERYBODY dies!  Doesn't mean they do it on a bike.  I agree with waiting until you finish your schooling.  Don't risk you scholarship for thrills you can get after you complete your education.  Years ago, when there was a lot less traffic, and people took a whole semester of drivers ed in high school (not 2-3 weeks at ABC driving school) riding motorcycles was the ONLY way to get around campus and town (at least in my eyes).  Nowadays, idiots driving their cars with cell phones plastered to their ear while reaching to grab their beverage, just aren't looking for bikes (let alone other cars).  Give yourself a chance to get your education before you put yourself out there as a target for the idiots.

  13. I have been building and riding ol school outlaw choppers since I was 18 years old. Im 44 now and have had two wrecks. Lost my big toe on my right foot in one and recently lost my left leg from the knee down.I still ride and allways will. If this is something you love and are passionate about it then yes it is worth it.I will never give up my choppa!!!!

  14. if you drive like a young college kid on a fast Japanese honda or yamaha going 110 MPH on the freeway, then no, its not worth it, if you crash its over buddy, if you can drive responsibly then it might be okay, as the risk is less, i suggest get a used bike, the new bike you will MOST LIKELY drive it fast and can get seriously hurt for your life.
