  1. As an ion, it is usually negative but it doesn't generally exist by itself but part of a molecule.


  2. There are several answers to this question:

    1.  oxygen gas is a neutral, diatomic molecule.

    2.  the oxygen atom is a neutral atom.

    3.  oxygen can also be ionized into either a positive ion (by loss of an electron) or a negative ion (through the gaining of an electron)


  3. neutral atom.. if it gains 2 electrons then it'll become a negative ion.
