  1. In NJ, PIP has two seperate parts - medical payments, and lost wages.  You ARE required to buy medical payments, but lost wages is optional.

    You should REALLY be discussing this with your agent.  Do it yourself insurance relies on YOUR expertise in insurance - and can leave you uncovered when you really need the coverage.

  2. Absolutely.  Why would you NOT purchase $250,000 worth of medical benefits, plus lost wages?  Also, in NJ, if you are injured in a vehicle or by a vehicle, your auto insurance PIP is primary, no matter whose fault the accident is, even if you are a pedestrian.
