Is pGLO an acronym, or is it short for somthing?

So it doesn't stand for anything, it is just a brand name?

  1. The p at the start of the name indicates that this is a plasmid, rather than some other source of DNA. GLO seems to have been coined by BioRad because it causes the transformed cells to Glow, since the gfp gene carried on the plasmid causes it to produce the green fluorescent protein.


  2. pGLO is a commercial plasmid (made by BioRad) used in bacterial transformations (cloning). It contains an ampicillin resistance gene as well as gfp (gene for green fluorescence protein), which aid in selection of the introduced mutation.
