  1. To put it simply, yes. Israel became its own nation in 1948. Before that it was all Palestine, there was no difference.

  2. Palestine once encompassed Israel. It was the Balfour declaration, the League of Nations and the UN all of which carved out a piece of the Palestine territory and gave it to the Jews. The Jews abandoned their home in Palestine during the second through fifth centuries. Then in the late nineteenth century Theodore Herzl and his group of 176 bandits went to Palestine to reclaim the land they left more than one thousand years prior. In the process and up to the first World War between 20,000 and 30,000 Jews left Europe to settle in Palestine. This led to numerous fights between the Jews and the Palestinians where many Palestinians were slaughtered by the Jews. In conclusion, Israel was stolen from the Palestinians.

  3. Hummm.... well... it depends on at what point in history you want to set the marker.  Palestine existed AS A COUNTRY before the State of Israel was cut out of their homelands by the British and enforced at the point of a bayonet.

  4. "A declaration of a "State of Palestine" (Arabic: دولة فلسطين) took place in Algiers on November 15, 1988, by the Palestinian National Council, the legislative body of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO). The proclaimed "State of Palestine" is not and has never actually been an independent state, as it has never had sovereignty over any territory in history." (Wikipedia: State of Palestine)

Prior to that, there was no country called "Palestine". There was a region by that name named after a Roman province by that name, which has nothing to do with its current inhabitants.

The State of Israel has been declared in 1948, and was subsequently recognized by the UN.

Way before that, it was the name of the Hebrew kingdom, that lasted several centuries until about ~700 BCE.

Ancient history aside, Since 1948 came before 1988 (check your calendar to be sure), the state of Israel is older.

  5. It's a difficult question, the problem is, from which point in history you take a look at it.

If you take a look at the biblical times, it's true that Jews were there FIRST but then they DELIBERATELY left it for Egypt because of famine, so the land should then belong to Palestinians and Palestine would thus be older then the "new" Israel after Joshua reacquired that land by force.

If you take a look at the time short after Jesus's life, Jews were banished from Israel by Romans because of a mutiny. Today's Israel was created with the help of the western countries and to that time, it was Palestine, under a Muslim rule.
