Is parrying an effective boxing technique?

  1. Former heavyweight champ Jack Johnson often used this technique and yes it's a very effective as it allows you to counter more effectively after knocking your opponent's hands down.


  2. It is good. However you should only ever go to the SIDE not down.

    It's also just a very light movement and is a twist of the torso not arm movement.

    Eg. Parrying a right hand by just catching it with your left while twisting ever so slightly to the right, then you are well set up for throwing your right hand.

    It's not something you do all of the time either.

  3. It's definitely a great technique. Pro-tour pretty much covered the reason. The first gentleman who answer had some good points, though I disagree with knocking the opponent's punches downward when parrying.

  4. Absolutely. Parrying is a good technique used mostly when you are going to counter or when someone is trying to rush you with straight punches. Make sure that you don't parry their punches to side but to the bottom or else you will be blocking the line for your counter.
