Question:

Is pasta OK to feed a kitten?

I have a 3 month old kitten, and he eats both dry and wet kitten food. When I eat, he wants a little of what I have. I know not to give him anything with onions or garlic. I also do not give him anything spicy, only bland foods. He had a piece of pasta the other day, and loved it. I was wondering if, every once in a while it is OK to give him a few pieces, with keeping his regular diet. Just wondering if it is safe for him.

  1. Yeah, pasta is safe for him.  It won't harm him.  But, it isn't really "good" for him either.  Maybe try giving him a bit MORE of the canned food and see if the problem is just that he isn't eating enough.

Kittens need a lot lot lot of food, especially BOY kittens.

Also, you could extend the cat food (if cost is a concern) by mixing it with Plain Rice Baby Cereal prepared with warm water.  Mix the Rice Baby Cereal with the canned cat food and give it to him.  It will FILL HIM UP and keep his belly feelin' full longer.

It isn't a good idea to give him food off your plate because it fosters bad behaviour.

I always give my cat a little chicken or tuna when I eat it though, so I can't really talk.  But, only in moderation.

Stick to foods that you are sure he can have.

  2. It of course isn't the healthiest thing that you could do, but there really is nothing wrong with it. It isn't fatal and he enjoys it, so I think that it's fine as long as it doesn't become a routine for him.

Lol my 19 year old cat (I know, very old) will run up to me every time he smells me eating tuna, salmon, chicken, turkey, etc. It's funny because he will beg and meow until I give him a little sample.
