I hear that in the south people are more patriotic than in the north.

Just to clarify - I am a northerner asking this question.

Do you think there is a division of patriotism in our country?

  1. No I suspect your definition of Patriotism and mine are very different. You see I care what my government does to other people in my name and most of the other people I see wrapping themselves in the flag couldn't care less what we do to others as long as we can plant a great big flag on top of the heap when we're done.

  2. ARE YOU SERIOUS. MY AUNT MARRIED A SOUTHERN AND LIVED IN BIRMINGHAM, AL. THEY STILL HAVE A DEEP HATRED AND DISTRUST OF THE NORTHERNER. A LOT ARE STILL STATES' RIGHTERS. WASHINGTON IS LIKE A REMOTE COUNTRY TO MANY.

  3. They THINK they are

  4. They like to think so, just as the like to think they are more moral even though they lead the nation in violent crime, divorce, illegitimacy, and incarceration, among other social and behavioral pathologies.

  5. yes it is. i mean everywhere you look people have the American flag in their cars, homes, shirts, etc. i myself have it on my car. America, the greatest nation in the world. love it.

  6. I agree.

I'm a northerner and would never move down south because of their jingoism.

  7. No.

  8. Well that's just say that people who are the ones waving flags and supporting the war are from around the south, but there are people who support the war in the north too.

  9. No. I'm as patriotic as the next guy.

  10. Having lived in Florida, Colorado, Texas, California, Alabama, Europe and Panama (thanks to the USAF!) and having traveled extensively all over the world, I'd have to agree that southerners are very patriotic.

When I lived in CA, I swear I wondered why the h**l they didn't just get the *&^! out of the US if they really thought it so awful. If CA ever wished to secede from the union, I'd surely give them my support!

I've never really lived up north, but I've known many northern natives. They're a good lot, generally. But I think the southerners have a special deep-seated pride in their country that I just haven't seen elsewhere.

  11. There are patriotic and unpoatriotic people in all parts of this country

No one area has all patriotic people

Berkeley California however is void of all patriotism.

  12. With many Southerners still proudly displaying that old traitorous Confederate flag, it would appear as though they were actually the least patriotic.  LOL 5X

  13. Robert's right, lol!  They have a deep distrust of the federal government in general.  So do I.

  14. no.

  15. The South is more republican -- more p**n subscriptions, teen preganancies, abortions, higher divorce rates, more "christian fundamentalists", higher H.S. dropouts, crime and poorer.  Also the voter turn out rate is lower, BUT they have a higher military enlistment.

If that's more patriotic, sure. More likely, just swallow the rightwing media koolaide faster than the rest of the nation.

  16. No, blind stupidity is though. Always has and always will be.
