Well, actually Suvarnabhumi airport is in Samuthprakarn province, another province adjacent to Bangkok. The airport itself located in between Pattaya and Bangkok, but it is much nearer to Bangkok. From the airport to inner Bangkok is about 25 kilometres, but it is about 150 kilometres from the airport to Pattaya.
