Is paying tution fee by phone call safe?

I asked my Uni how could I pay my tuiton fee for the next year, and they emailed back several ways. One is that I can call them and give them my debit card details and then my tuition fee can be transfered from my acount to my uni's. I don't know what kind of card details of me I should give on the phone yet, and I just wonder if it would be safe if some one knows my card details.

I think the fincance staff in my uni can get access of my personal detials like my D.O.B. and home address, so that they may know both of my personal details and card details which is all normally I need for using my card online. So feel it's not safe to let the uni staff know my card details. Sometimes, I really don't understand how the bank prevend fraud in transfering money!Thank you

  1. the Staff of UNI doesn't have access to do transfers from your account to their personal account and transferring extra money to the university is pointless to them. They don't have access, I'm not going to go in to internal controls and segregation of duties but they don't have access.

second, to be able to transfer money from your account they university must contact the bank and have an electronic certificate to allow them to be able to transfer money out of an account. Also something an individual would not have.

Third, this is on you. looking at your bank statement, you would see wire transfers and bank activity that should not be there. if you still do not feel comfortable then use the on-line service to pay your bills. I've given my information over the phone though and never had any problems.
