Is pepper spray illegal in queensland, australia?

i live in a small town if that helps.

  1. At the moment police have the only right to use pepper spray.So it is illegal!!! There are lots of legal products that you can use for protection that would have the same effect as pepper spray.


  2. Pepper spray (or oleoresin capsicum spray) has been in use by the Qld Police Service since a successful trial in 1998. It is not available to the public.

  3. It's illegal not only in Queensland but all over Australia, unless it's the police. The police are the only ones who are alowed to use it, but it's not available to any of us. :(

  4. Sorry laurajay but pepper spray is illegal in Queensland. It is classified as a restricted weapon and can only be used and  carried by police officers and correctional personnal. This restriction has recently been extended to allow Navy sailors to use capsicum spray to temporarily disable illegal fishermen.

    If you are caught using or possessing capsicum spray then you could be charged with assault occassioning bodily harm while armed and possession of a weapon
