My vegan friend always has pepperoni pizza he claims its vegetarian, because during the process of treating the meat and spicing it to become pepperoni that it loses its meatness. Is this right?

  1. Um no.

Pepperoni is definitely meat. You cant do things to meat to make it not meat. That just sounds stupid.

Besides, your friend is claiming to be a vegan, the cheese on that pepperoni pizza is also not vegan. Its vegetarian yes, but not vegan.

  2. pepperoni = meat

    meat = not for vegetarians

  3. Loss of meatness - a delightful concept! Perhaps with the progress of genetic engineering, they will come up with a pork tree, and then the peperoni will be veggie for sure. In the meantime, just call it vegetarian and enjoy it.

  4. Does your friend do a lot of drugs?  Seriously, either you're joking or he's impaired in some way.  You can do whatever you want to the carcass after slaughter, but it doesn't change the fact that an animal died for it.  Your "vegan" friend should also know that the cheese on the pizza isn't vegan, either...

  5. Pepperoni is definitely meat no matter what treatment it goes through. Also from previous experience as a vegan shop bought pizza is not vegan, definitely contains cheese and probably milk proteins.

  6. Nope, pepperoni is italian sausage. My family owns an italian deli. Pepperoni is definitely meat.

  7. He might just be adjusting to the vegan lifestyle, just think about it - you're throwing out 3 major food staples - meat, dairy, and eggs. It has to be hard. I'm vegetarian and I admit that I cheat sometimes. He might just be saying that it's vegetarian so that you don't think he's a hypocrite.

    Ingredients for pepperoni:

To answer your question, no, pepperoni is definitely not vegetarian. It has lots of other stuff in there that is vegan, like garlic and cayenne pepper, but the major ingredients are pork butt and beef chuck. Pork & beef means dead pigs & cows, which of course means that it's not veg friendly. Also, cheese is made from milk, so he is also breaking a big vegan no-no. Tell your buddy that his best option is to only have pizza that he makes himself - there are lots of kinds of vegan cheese and pepperoni available that he can use. If he does not want to make the commitment right now, since vegan food costs more and the economy is not very good, he should consider dropping it for now and consider going veg when the time is right.

I hope your friend sticks with it!

  8. no its not vegetarian.

    its still meat.

  9. It depends on the reason he is vegetarian they still kill animals to make pepperoni but if that is the reason then there is probably soy pepperoni or some kind that does not have real meat in it.

  10. The pepperoni pizza which is vegetarian is with only bell peppers, mushrooms and onions. The word pepperoni means bell pepper in Italian. In U.S. pepperoni is like a sausage or small salami which is  made of meat.

  11. well it's made out of meat so it's still meat..

    sorry hun!

  12. nope

    meat is meat

  13. There is such a thing as imitation pepperoni, which is made completely from vegetables. Most pepperoni, and I believe the type you're talking about uses animal detritus in it's creation. If any animal detritus (dead animal flesh) was used in any part of it's production, it's not vegetarian.

So, while there is 'imitation pepperoni' pizza, the stuff you get at Papa John's or Pizza Hut is most definitely NOT vegetarian.

ps. To the more expired answerers, is there any way to italicize rather than capitalize your words?

  14. it depends whether or not it is a BIG SAUSAGE PIZZA

  15. Your friend is a dumbass.

  16. Ha ha ha, that's ridiculous.

No process is going to change an animal into a plant.

    Come on, think about it.

  17. pepperoni is meat not a bell pepper "vill p" dumb ***

  18. pepperoni is meat. regardless of how the meat was processed, it is still meat because the main ingredient that it has is meat. so, therefore, it is not a vegetarian pizza. vegetarian IS  tomatoes, olives, green peppers, mushroom, garlic, etc..

tell your friend asap! good luck!

  19. Uh, I would say your friend isn't really a vegan or vegetarian.

Loses it meatness? That's hilarious. Does the cheese lose it's cheeseness when it melts? At what point does the crust lose it's crustness?

  20. NO!!PEPPERONI IS MEAT! IT COMES FROM AN ANIMAL THERE FOR IT IS NOT VEGETARIAN AND THAT MEANS UR FRIEND IS A REAL VEGAN!!

  21. i always thought pepperoni was a vegetable...

  22. then your friend is not a true vegan. she/he should be no where near that pepperoni pizza  I am no pro but I am sure that vegans or vegetarians are not supposed to eat pork ???

  23. they killed the pig. end of story.
