1. Will it cause white spots in gums?

2. WIll it eat away at your enamel?

3. Will it cause gum sensitivity/mess up your teeth?

I want to gargle with it and salt/baking soda for whiter teeth.

Or should I brush my teeth with hydrogen peroxide directly?

  1. Nah; the stuff you get off-the-shelf at the store is so diluted, it would have to be in contact with your teeth for hours to do any harm.

Gargling with it is helpful, but brushing with it does nothing.

  2. No, it is actually the best mouthwash on the market and cheapest. It says right on the bottle can be used as mouthwash/gargle. It is the base ingredient for many over the counter mouthwashes, especially whitening rinses. We often recommend patients with gum problems rinse before bed with straight peroxide, spit, do not rinse/eat/drink just go to bed. It will also help with staining on teeth. The bubbling action works great to get under gum lines and between teeth. It also seems to be less irritating to the gums than alcohol as long as only used once a day or if used more often dilluted.

  3. I am not a doctor or dentist, but I have been brushing with 2% peroxide and baking soda for 2 years (I wanted to stop getting fluoride in my system).

1 - I've not had any cavities in that time.

2 - That white coating on my tongue is gone. Now healthy pink.

3 - My receding gums have grown back to normal.

4 - My teeth are a bit whiter now.

Get it real foamy and dig in between the teeth. Those cheap ($7) Crest "SpinBrush"'s are great.  Rinse, FLOSS and repeat. Rinse WELL.

Try not to swallow it. If you do, drink a glass of water to dilute it.
