Is pine tar still good after getting wet?

I was thinking for when me and my friends play football for putting some spray pine tar on my worn receiver gloves. Would this work and continue to stick? Even if the gloves got wet?

I would guess it would still work because it repels water.

But your still going to have to replenish it after a few uses or when ever needed!
