Boyfriend is correct because it is more valuable. However, in western society, it's probably that Sheen which we go for. Also, 14 K is far less valuable than 18 k, which IS far less valuable than 21 K. 24 K pure gold is so soft, it cant hold shape. 14 K is a bk lend of pore gold with other thing. 18 K is still hard, but with less things added. It's cost is steep, thus 14K glutton on the market.

Gold is too soft to make jewelry and other stuff out of it by itself so they mix it with other metals. Platinum is gold and sliver mixed together, which is why its sometimes called white gold and it it  worth more.

it is worth more and it will stay white for longer than white gold. white gold will begin to turn back to yellow and you have to go back to the jewler to have it retreated. But platinum is mush softer and will scratch easily.
