  2. Not at all.  It develops logic, patience, and multi-tasking abilities.  Unlike video games, it is a social competition.

Ben Franklin  commented on the  usefulness and vaue  to be aquired by a serious interest in Chess.  Playing people of roughly the same or slightly higher  skill is useful- Playing "Games at odds"with skilled players  can be exciteing- remove a pawn or knight Bishop etc-or Checkmate  youonly with a particular piece or within a limited time. Chess against a 'difficult' computer program can be frustrateing  but useful.  Chess can be Brutal it is not a fun game in a playful sense  but plan arrangement and  success can be rewarding. I found with a better player friend  loss of a piece early sharpened  my focus awareness and skill.  Try endgames-fewer pieces -it is less intimadateing.

    I'm a  former tournament director and tournament player.  Yes, it helps with logical thinking, spatial recognition, etc.  Would you be better off memorizing the conjugation of the Spanish irregular verb "Tenir" instead of the Sicilian Najdorf up to move 24?  Yes.

  13. NO IT IS NOT! I love playing chess but i don't play it that much because i'm usally doing something else. What chess does it it builds up your knowledge. Keep on playing chess. It is not a waste of time. And if guys say it is, don't listen to them because they probably only played like a half a game and they probably didn't go to a class to learn. It's a fun game and I think you should stick with it!

Yeah, a game that is somewhere around 500 years old is a waste of time.  I can't believe people haven't caught on by now.  How many games that were invented in any of our lifetimes will still be played 500 years from now.  Chess is a timeless classic that everyone should take the time to learn, at least on a beginner level.

  15. No it makes you think, it keeps your mine sharp. My mom is almost 80years old and she plays it every day on the computer. I think this is good for her. It keeps your brain very active because you always have to be thinking several moves ahead of time.
